The Wohngeld table shows the maximum monthly Wohngeld amounts possible in Berlin depending on household size and rent category. The actual amount of Wohngeld is calculated individually and may be lower.

Wohngeld Table 2026 (Mietstufe IV – Berlin)

The following table shows the maximum amounts for Berlin households. Since the Wohngeld-Plus reform, all of Berlin has been uniformly assigned to Mietstufe IV — the values therefore apply to all twelve districts. The figures are based on the 2026 Wohngeld table.

Note: The values shown are maximum amounts for households with very low income. The actual Wohngeld amount depends on your individual income and rent.

Berlin has been uniformly assigned to Mietstufe IV since the Wohngeld-Plus reform (1 January 2023). The table therefore shows the values that apply to all Berlin districts.

How to Read the Wohngeld Table

The Wohngeld table shows the maximum Wohngeld amounts. Here's how to read the values correctly:

1. Determine your household size — Count all persons who permanently live with you in one household — including children and partners.
2. Read the maximum values — In the row for your household size, you will find the maximum eligible rent and the maximum Wohngeld amount. These are the maximum values — your actual Wohngeld may be lower.
3. Take income into account — Note: The table shows maximum amounts. If your income is close to the income limit, you will receive less. Use our Wohngeld calculator for a more accurate estimate.

Important Notes on the Wohngeld Table

• The maximum amounts shown apply to households with very low income. The higher your income, the lower the actual Wohngeld.
• Mietstufe IV applies to all of Berlin — there are no lower Mietstufen for individual districts.
• The rent ceiling refers to the gross cold rent (basic rent plus cold utilities). Heating costs are not included.
• The actual Wohngeld amount is calculated individually by the Wohngeld office. The table serves only as a guide.
